Salt Therapy (often referred to as “Halotherapy”) is a powerful, natural process that greatly benefits the respiratory system, as well as the integumentary system (skin). During salt therapy, our clients relax while inhaling dry, salt-enriched air deep down into the lungs. The salt loosens and clears mucus, while also reducing inflammation making more room in the airways for you to breathe. Salt therapy is like using a toothbrush for your lungs and skin; everyone can benefit!

Salt therapy works in several different ways. Since the salt is ground into such small particles, it is able to float around the air throughout the entire room. Inside the salt room, you will inhale these micro-particles deep down into your airways and lungs. The micro-particles of salt act like a brush, scrubbing away mucus and clearing congestion. The salt also has mucolytic properties, meaning it will help to break up mucus. The salt will also help to widen airways, helping to make more room for the air to pass through. The antibacterial and antimicrobial properties of salt will help to neutralize germs and prevent you from getting sick. Inhaling the salt is also beneficial for those with allergies and asthma, as it will reduce an antibody produced by the immune system called “immunoglobulin E.” If you have an allergy, your immune system overreacts to an allergen by producing these IgE antibodies. These antibodies travel to cells that release chemicals, causing an allergic reaction. Elevated IgE levels are linked to many other conditions, including eczema, so the salt therapy also has benefits for inflammation on the skin.

No special attire is necessary. We generally advise our clients to wear something comfortable. If you have a skin condition such as eczema or psoriasis, then we recommend you try to expose the affected area as much as possible, in which case, something like shorts and a t-shirt would be suitable. The salt may leave a light “dust” on dark clothing, but it can easily be wiped away and will not stain. If you’re using it solely for respiratory conditions, no special clothing is necessary.

It is totally up to you how you’d like to entertain yourself during your private Salt Therapy session. We will provide a tablet which will play the music of your choice. Otherwise, many clients: read books, do work/homework, listen to headphones, take a nap, chat with friends, do yoga, meditate, etc.

Your salt therapy session is completely private, and you will not be sharing the room with any strangers.

Many of our clients experience relief from respiratory issues during or after their first session. However, most experts agree that for long term results, more sessions are needed. Generally speaking, the more sessions completed in close succession, the better you can expect the results. Every person and every situation is different, but research suggests between 10-30 salt therapy sessions at a frequency of 2-3 times per week is between 75-98% effective at reducing/eliminating symptoms for up to or more than 1 year. Many of our clients see benefits when using salt therapy once per week or even once per two weeks. Again, everybody is different, so more severe and chronic conditions will most likely require more salt therapy sessions for maximum benefits.

Here at Cryptology, we aim to provide the most effective and affordable salt therapy possible. Our salt room is equipped with the most advanced equipment, including a salt generator that actively measures the concentration of dry salt aerosol (salt floating in the air) in real-time. This ensures that the proper size and concentration of dry salt particles are available for the client to inhale and receive benefits. Many other salt rooms use generators that disperse salt into the air at random, leaving no indication if there is enough or too much salt in the air. Other salt rooms don’t use any generator at all, so you would need to spend hours in one of these rooms to get benefits that are comparable to a 55-minute session at Cryptology.

While going to the beach and breathing in the ocean’s salt air is great for the body, salt therapy takes that feeling to a whole new level. Salt therapy is actually much more effective than breathing salty air from the beach. An hour in a dry aerosol salt room would be like spending several days on the beach.! The reason that the salt therapy is more effective is because we use a salt generator that is able to crush salt grains down to the perfect micro-sized particles and disperse them into the air. We also use a sensor that measures the concentration of the salt in the air, in real-time, which signals the generator to put more or less salt out accordingly. The tiny particles of dry salt are able to travel deep down into the lungs, where they are most effective. At the beach, the wet salt only reaches the upper airways and sticks to the nose and mouth, not reaching the throat or the deepest part of the lungs and sinuses. This reduces the salt’s ability to break-up mucus because it doesn’t get respired deep enough to be effective.

No, our salt therapy is much more powerful than sitting near a salt lamp. The main reason salt lamps are minimally effective is that not enough salt can evaporate into the room to receive the therapeutic benefits. You would probably have to spend hours near a salt lamp in a small room to feel any effect. Our salt therapy room was constructed almost entirely with Himalayan salt. The floor is lined with loose salt crystals, the walls are lined halfway to the ceiling with Himalayan salt bricks, and we have several Himalayan salt lamps around the room. What actually provides most of the therapeutic benefit is our salt generator, which disperses dry salt particles into the air in the perfect size and concentration for you to receive a noticeable benefit in just one 55-minute session.

What usually differentiates a salt cave from a salt room is the décor. Many salt caves emphasize the aesthetic aspect of the salt therapy. Ultimately for therapeutic purposes, the most important aspect of any salt cave/room is the salt content in the air (dispersed via the generator). The generator is what actually provides breathable salt particles.

Yes! Salt therapy has actually been around for hundreds of years. The ancient Greeks made numerous references to salt’s positive effects on the airways. Fast forward to 1843, when a Polish doctor documented how salt mine workers didn’t suffer from respiratory issues like coal miners did, and the salt miners actually had less respiratory issues compared to the general population. Soon after, inhaling salt for therapeutic purposes was being offered in Russia. Currently, there is a long list of studies confirming the benefits and safety of salt therapy.

Absolutely. Salt therapy is totally natural and has none of the negative side effects that you may experience from different medications, inhalers, etc. Here at Cryology, we do not charge children under the age of 12, however, they must be accompanied by an adult.

We try to keep our salt room at a comfortable room temperature. The room is heated or cooled according to the weather outside.
