WHOLE BODY CRYOTHERAPY FAQ

Whole Body Cryotherapy (WBC) is a 3-minute cold exposure (-250 degrees below zero!) to help with pain and inflammation in the body. This brief cold exposure initiates a powerful “systemic” response, meaning it’s an internal “whole body” response. The brain sends signals throughout the body to go into a fight or flight response. This reaction causes blood to leave the limbs to protect our core, vital organs. Of course, we do not feel this happening for the 2–3-minute session. However, as soon as we step out of the machine, blood flushes back out to the extremities, targeting areas of injury with more nutrient rich blood to expedite the healing process. Think of this response as similar as getting a paper cut! This systemic flush carries anti-inflammatory proteins while stopping the release of inflammatory proteins.

Yes! Single person cryo-saunas have been used for the past 30+ years. Problems have only arisen if a client steps into the machine with wet clothing, especially wet socks, as water will freeze immediately at these temperatures. Cryology will provide the client with a pair of dry cotton socks, as well as slippers, to wear into the sauna. The nitrogen used to cool the cryo-sauna is the same nitrogen that makes up the air we breathe (actually 78% of it). The operator will raise the platform which the client stands on in the cryo-sauna so the head is above the heavier nitrogen vapors. Here, the client breathes normal room air. Clients will never be alone while going through a session as an operator will be in the room at all times. If you are unsure about using WBC with a medical condition please see our list of contraindications, or speak to your doctor.

During each session, the body releases endorphins, which are hormones that make you feel good and energetic. Many clients claim they feel looser with a better range of motion immediately after a session. Within the next 24-48 hours, swelling, aches, and pains will start to disappear. These effects from each session can last for hours, to days, to weeks depending on the person.

The first step the healing injuries is eliminating the inflammation. After this process, the body can then start to heal the injury itself. The more you use WBC, the better you will feel. Generally speaking, more serious conditions require more sessions. There is no such thing as coming in too often. Cryology offers multiple membership options for clients looking to use our services daily, weekly, or monthly.

Yes, the cold air only penetrates about a half-millimeter deep so it will never reach any internal hardware. The same goes for other internal replacements and breast implants.

To put it simply, an ice bath does not get cold enough to trigger the same response as WBC. In general, WBC is safer, easier, and more effective than ice baths.

Every cryotherapy session is beneficial, and repeated treatments help you achieve the maximum benefits. Our membership and packages are designed to help you create a maintenance regimen and experience the benefits of repeated sessions.

We cannot put a specific number on how many calories a person burns, because everyone is different! However, we do know that your metabolic rate is spiked up during the 2-3 minutes in the cryo-chamber in order to keep your organs at appropriate temperature. This spike could last up to 48 hours after the session!
